[PConline Information] On April 2, 2018, at the 7th GMGC Beijing 2018 Global Games Conference, the reporter had the honor to interview Nie Song, the general manager of Huawei's consumer Internet solutions. He shared the technological cornerstone of the innovative development of the game industry and the value that AI, 5G, blockchain and other technologies, as the elements of game innovation, will bring to innovators.

Nie Song, General Manager of Huawei Consumer Internet Solutions

For game innovation, Nie Song emphasized the importance of technology in the "black soil": behind the popularity of single player Minesweeper games is the support of Intel CPUs and Windows operating systems; The maturity of PC interconnection, offline payment, and IDC technology has brought about the era of gaming legends; Behind the 218.9 billion yuan revenue of Chinese games in 2017 is the maturity of 4G, WiFi networks, mobile payments, smartphones, and cloud computing. In 2018, the popularization of 5G, blockchain, AI, and AR/VR will bring multidimensional innovation to the gaming industry in terms of gameplay, services, and scenarios.

Regarding this, Nie Song first stated that in terms of gaming solutions, Huawei Cloud does not produce gaming products, does not compete with gaming companies for profits, and insists on being the engine and productivity of gaming companies. Huawei's cloud gaming solution has currently built the capability of the entire industry chain, including game research and development, game deployment, game operation, and game innovation. In the future, Huawei Cloud will focus on several major directions in the gaming industry:

Firstly, at the infrastructure level, the most commonly used product in the gaming industry in the past few years has been the cloud host virtual machine. Huawei's cloud host has excellent performance, and its bare metal service has been rated as the annual influential product by a third-party organization.

Secondly, in terms of cloud container products, containers are of great significance for game deployment and can support the evolution of game product architecture. Game companies have increased the elastic speed of server deployment by more than 10 times through the use of containers, and reduced the time required to expand their servers to the minute level, resulting in a reduction of over 50% in overall operating costs.

Thirdly, in terms of AI capabilities, Huawei, as a company in the industry with chip level research and development capabilities in both cloud and terminal, can perform facial recognition on the terminal side; Big data analysis, video analysis, and visual cognition can be conducted in the cloud; At the bottom of the architecture, Huawei Cloud uses hardware such as Atlas, GPU, FPGA, etc. to customize computing power for AI, which can meet the needs of gaming companies in terms of performance, latency, and other aspects.

Fourthly, Huawei's cloud gaming enables on-demand viewing and playing. The game requires no modifications and allows multiple users to play live social games together, greatly improving the customer experience.

Fifthly, at the blockchain level, Huawei can deploy a complete blockchain system within ten minutes, with a computing power of up to 2000TPS per second, easily helping game customers achieve free exchange of different game props.

Finally, Nie Song emphasized the advantages of Huawei terminals: over 300 million registered mobile phone users, over 370000 users in the Huawei Developer Alliance, over 45 billion downloads in the application market, and over 100 services in Huawei Cloud. At this conference, Huawei also announced a joint plan with Consumer Cloud for end cloud collaboration. Registered and certified consumer cloud developers can receive a big gift package for end cloud collaboration. In the future, Huawei Cloud will also launch larger and better support plans for developer innovation.

As the scale of game users gradually shifts from an incremental market to a stock market, the game market is shifting from the number of buying users to the pursuit of ultimate experience. With Huawei's "black soil" of creating an intelligent world as fertile ground, what changes will be made in China's game market innovation in 2018? Let's wait and see!
